Steeped in history since Venetian times the village of Old Farsa, perched on the hillside above the current village, has many stories to tell along with the most breathtaking views you will find on the beautiful island of Kefalonia.

Old Farsa has stood determinedly looking out to sea throughout the centuries, withstanding pirate attacks, foreign invasions and wars. Alongside its outstanding natural beauty, the village has a unique, dramatic and often tragic history.

From the earliest records of the village in the 16^th century right up to current times, Farsa has a fascinating backstory.

Having a strategic coastal location on the Gulf of Argostoli, this small village of seafarers was pivotal in the conflict between the occupying Italian and German forces during World War 2 and is cited as one of the main locations influencing the story of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. 

More recently the great earthquake of 1953, which demolished the majority of towns and villages on Kefalonia, has taken its toll although many of the houses in Old Farsa still stand proudly today, damaged but not defeated.
